Donald Trump’s director of communications has resigned after just three months in the position, following reports of problems within the White House communications team.
Mike Dubke, an experienced Republican strategist, was offered the job in March but tendered his resignation last week. In an email, Dubke said the reasons for his departure were “personal”, adding that “it has been my great honor to serve President Trump and this administration.”
According to Axios News, the politics website which first reported his exit, he is leaving on good terms despite rumours of disarray and a reshuffle in his department. Trump is reported to have become increasingly frustrated with the White House communications department in the wake of FBI investigations into whether his campaign officials colluded with Russia in order to swing the November vote in his favour.
White House adviser Kellyanne Conway said Dubke would stay in his post until Trump returned from his tour of Middle East and Europe. She told Fox News:
“He has expressed his desire to leave the White House and made very clear that he would see through the president’s international trip.”
Dubke’s departure represents the latest in a series of high-profile resignations and forced departures in Trump’s administration, just six months into his presidency.
