Google Glass has returned to the world’s technology stage, after issuing its first software update in nearly three years.

Google’s wearable technology glasses took the tech sector by storm when thy were first released back in 2012, but their high price – $1,500 – and relative difficulty to find put off many consumers. Since then the product has stayed in the background, but this week’s update may signal that it’s ready to reenter the fray.

The update won’t change much for those who already own the product, boasting little other than bug fixes and performance improvements, as well as the addition of Bluetooth support. Google has yet to comment on the software, and its website and tech support remains fairly sparse – perhaps indeed suggesting that the product is to be wound down.

However more and more businesses are turning to Glass through the Glass at Work programme, which supports the use of the product in a business environment.
