Apple may have spoilt their own surprise by accidentally including an image of the new MacBook Pro, due to be released on October 27th, in its latest software update.

Initially reported by tech site MacRumors.com, the images appear to show a newer version of the MacBook Pro with a touch bar along the top, prompting speculation that Apple have introduced their TouchID technology to the MacBook range.

The MacBook Pro line has remained without any major updates for a relatively long time, leading users to expect a change with the release of the latest version on Thursday.

On their website, MacRumors said:

“Said to be called the “Magic Toolbar,” the OLED panel replaces the physical function keys at the top of the keyboard. The panel offers up virtual keys that are contextual, changing based on what app is in use. A Touch ID fingerprint sensor is built into a nearly-invisible power button that is located to the right of the panel and blends right in.”

For those who own a Mac, it is easy to view the leaked images – just update to macOS Sierra 10.12.1 and open “/System/Library/PrivateFrameworks/PassKitUI.framework/Versions/A/Resources/”in the Terminal application .

Apple are set to announce the update in Cupertino on Thursday. Alongside the redesigned MacBook Pro, updates are expected for the MacBook Air and possibly the iMac, which has been neglected for several years.
The news comes just after Apple (NASDAQ:AAPL) reported a fall in annual revenue for the first time in over 10 years earlier on Wednesday, alongside another quarter of weak demand for iPhone handsets.
The group sold 45.51 million iPhones in the three months to 24 September, beating analyst estimates but falling for the third quarter in a row. Quarterly revenue fell to $46.9 billion in the three months to September, down from $51.5 billion in the same quarter last year.
