Along with the release of the iPhone 7 comes a new iOS operating system. And whilst no one likes change, the new software comes with a number of surprisingly handy features – here’s our top three.
New home screen
The headphones are not the only original feature to be lost in this update – the iPhone’s signature ‘slide to unlock’ mechanism will also be lost with iOS 10. Everything will not be done through the home button. One press will unlock the phone to show widgets – smaller versions of apps that can be kept on the home screen – with another press needed to unlock the phone completely.
Alongside this, viewing notifications on your home screen will get easier – iOS 10 has programmed the phone’s accelerometer to respond to you picking it up and lighting up the lock screen, instead of having to press a button.
Better keyboard
iOS 10 comes with an intuitive new keyboard designed to make your life easier. It scans your messages so when people ask for a number or an email address, it will pop up without you having to life a finger.
Since its 2016 and no one uses words anymore anyway, the new iOS keyboard makes it easier to find the right emoji for any situation. The emoji keyboard will highlight words which can be replaced with emojis and, should you wish, place them in the message for you.
And lastly… you can now delete that Stocks app!
Finally Apple has designed an operating system allowing users to fully take control of their phones – allowing the deletion of Apple’s pre-installed apps. If, like most people, you haven’t used the Tips app since you first got an iPhone – delete it. Stocks and shares not your thing? Send it to the trash.
Just as with other apps, they can be deleted by tapping and hold on the relevant app and click the cross in the corner.
