A new poll from the Independent has shown a growth in support for a new referendum on Theresa May’s Brexit deal.
The survey carried out by BMG Research comes as the public is showing dwindling support for the prime minister and her approach to the UK’s exit from the EU.
1,500 pollsters were asked: “Should a Brexit deal be reached between Britain and the EU, to what extent would you support or oppose a referendum being held asking the public whether they accept or reject the terms of the deal?”
From the responses, 44 percent supported the idea with 27 percent opposing. 15 percent did not have strong opinions either way and 14 percent said they did not know.
Support for the Brexit deal is waning. A poll by YouGov for the People’s Vote campaign last week found that 50 percent of respondents want another referendum if a deal can’t be reached in the upcoming weeks.
The Independent has also launched a campaign to win a Final Say Brexit referendum. Over 610,000 people have signed the petition so far.
Another survey from the Chartered Institute of Personnel and Development (CIPD) has found that said the number of applicants per vacancy had dropped in the past year across all levels of skilled jobs and companies are being forced to raise wages.
“The most recent official data shows that there has been a significant slowdown in the number of EU nationals coming to work in the UK over the past year,” said Gerwyn Davies of CIPD.
“This is feeding into increasing recruitment and retention challenges, particularly for employers in sectors that have historically relied on non-UK labour to fill roles and which are particularly vulnerable to the prospect of future changes to immigration policy for EU migrants,” he added.
