The Bob Corker and Donald Trump feud continues, with Corker lashing out at Trump by calling him an “unfaithful President”.
In a series of television interviews, Corker accused the US President of being a liar who had debased the US.
“He is purposely breaking down relationships we have around the world that had been useful to our nation,” Corker told CNN.
“I think the debasement of our nation is what he’ll be remembered most for,” he added.
“The most important public service I have to offer our country could well occur over the next 15 months”, as Trump is clearly “not going to rise to the occasion as president”.
True to Trump’s style, the President took to Twitter to slam the senior Republican. One of a series of tweets claimed that Corker “couldn’t get elected dog-catcher in Tennessee”.
Corker tweeted back with: “Same untruths from an utterly untruthful president. #AlertTheDaycareStaff.”
The latest spat comes following Trump’s plans for the US tax system. Corker has been wary of the changes, saying that a new tax plan must reduce the deficit whilst Trump’s plans will increase it.
Trump responded to the criticism with “Isn’t it sad that lightweight Senator Bob Corker, who couldn’t get re-elected in the Great State of Tennessee, will now fight Tax Cuts plus!”
The President accused Corker deciding to retire after Trump refused to endorse him.
“And now is only negative on anything Trump. Look at his record!” said Trump.
Earlier this month, the senior Republican said in a telephone interview that he was worried about the conduct of the US President following his tweets about North Korea.
“I don’t think he appreciates that when the president of the United States speaks and says the things that he does, the impact that it has around the world, especially in the region that he’s addressing,” he said.
“I don’t know why the president tweets out things that are not true,”
“You know he does it, everyone knows he does it, but he does.”
