As the post-summer blues kick in, there’s no need to be downhearted; the transition from summer to autumn marks the beginning of one of the most fabulous seasons. Not only is it a time of spectacular light and colour, but the summer crowds have headed home meaning you can be sure to get that bit of peace and quiet one always hopes for.
With this is mind, we have rounded up four fabulous destinations to visit this autumn, from just a stone’s throw away to right across the pond.
The Dodecanese Islands, Greece
The Dodecanese translates as “the twelve islands”, and being the most southerly of the little Greek islands, you can be sure to enjoy the hot temperatures and sunshine well into October. Although the islands of Kos and Rhodes are best known by the British traveller, the lesser known, yet charming islands of Symi, Halki and Kastellorizo, are renowned for their beautiful, unspoilt beaches. Or, why not visit the island of Nisyros – well-known for being the Dodecanese hidden gem.
Stay at Hip Away Villas or The Diamond Hotel
Essaouira, Morocco
If you love Morocco but have been defeated by the mayhem of Marrakech, then look no further than the seaside town of Essaouira. Essaouira has a unique quaintness and charm about it and with a wonderfully laid back, bohemian vibe, the only real crowds you are likely to find are those of seagulls.
Stay at Villa Maroc or Heure Bleue
Cyprus
Whilst some parts of the Med are starting to cool down, Cyprus’s southerly position gives it a Middle Eastern climate – making it the perfect autumn destination for those in search of a last blast of sunshine. With temperatures remaining well into the thirties, Cyprus lends itself to those beach worshippers; but the island’s rich history and captivating culture, lifestyle and landscape means it has something to offer everyone.
Stay at the Four Seasons or the Almyra Hotel
The Lake District, UK
With the hustle and bustle of summer out the window, autumn marks one of the most
spectacular times to visit the Lakes. Forests are inundated with red and gold trees and blazing golden light covers the fells, making autumn in the Lakes an almost magical season. Much less crowded than in the summer, it’s the ideal time to visit some of the most well-known spots, such as Beatrix Potters house at Hill Top near Hawkshead, and Wordsworth’s Dove Cottage near Grasmere.
Stay at The Wordsworth Hotel or Armathwaite Hall
