Boots will be rolling out a private coronavirus testing service over the next few weeks.
Costing £120, the tests will be among the cheapest on the market and results will come back within 12 minutes.
“Boots has supported the government’s Covid-19 testing programme from the very start and offering this new in-store service is the next step in our efforts to fight against the pandemic,” said Seb James, Boots’ UK managing director.
“We hope that by offering this testing option in local community stores, Boots can help ease pressure on the NHS and the government by providing additional access to testing and crucial reassurances for people across the UK.
“As part of the UK high street for over 170 years, Boots is proud to serve on the frontline alongside the NHS and we will continue to do our part to support the nation’s healthcare needs during this challenging time and beyond.”
The pharmacy already provides tests where results are shared within 48 hours across 10 stores in London, Birmingham, Manchester, Edinburgh and Glasgow, and plan to extend the tests to a further 50 outlets.
The new service is targeted at people who do not have any but who want to get tested before taking a flight, or who would like to have peace of mind before visiting friends and family. Current NHS advice states that tests should only be taken if you feel one of the symptons.
