Littlewoods owner Shop Direct is set to close three sites in the UK, placing 2,000 jobs at risk.
Shop Direct, which also owns the Very and Very Exclusive brands, announced plans to close sites in Shaw, Raven and Little Hulton from mid 2020.
The firm is set to move its operations from its Manchester locations to an automated warehouse in the East Midlands.
Development in the Midlands is expected to commence sometime in May.
Around 500 permanent roles are expected to be created at the new site once completed.
Derek Harding, the interim chief executive of Shop Direct, commented:
“This is a tough day for the business and we know how difficult this news will be to hear for our teams in Shaw, Little Hulton and Raven,”
“However, these proposals are necessary for our future and to enable us to continue to grow and meet rising customer expectations.”
Despite the challenges facing the UK high street and retail, last year Shop Direct said sales grew by 5.6 per cent to £1.93 billion.
The company is owned by the billionaire Barclay brothers, David and Frederick Barclay, who also own the Telegraph newspaper titles.
