Secretive tech developer startup Wonder closed another round of Series A funding this week, bringing their total raised up to $14 million with participation from investors including Shakira and Kevin Spacey.
The most recent round of funding was led by Grishin Robotics and TCL Communication Holdings Ltd, and comes on top of the undisclosed amount of seed funding they raised in July last year. According to TechCrunch, this latest financing brings the total up to around $14 million.
Investors in Wonder, a mysterious company claiming to be building a new breed of “VR-ready” gaming software, include several football players, House of Cards star Kevin Spacey and singer Shakira.
Little is known about Wonder’s ambitions, with the company choosing to retain an air of mystery that has yet to put off potential investors. In a roundabout way, its website says its mission is to “build a company for people like us, the gamers and the dreamers, instead of just trying to cater to the masses”, starting with an “incredible group of passionate, smart, talented, experienced individuals” and hoping to “help set the course for future innovation”.
The company has offices not far from Snap in Abbot Kinney, and is run by CEO Andy Kleinman. Currently its 30-person team has been funded by WB Studios President Greg Silverman, Machinima founder Allen DeBevoise, former Facebook COO Owen Van Natta, former NBA Commissioner David Stern.
